The Crested Butte Center for the Arts Summer Line Up

The Crested Butte Center for the Arts Summer Line Up

For more than 20 years, Center for the Arts has been committed to providing arts and cultural experiences that inspire and entertain all audiences, whether they call Crested Butte home every day or just for the weekend. The Crested Butte Center for the Arts is the valley’s premier visual and home for concerts, dance performances, art exhibits and classes in creative arts. Popular winter traditions include Move the Butte (a wildly creative performance put on by all local dancers), monthly film screenings in partnership with the Crested Butte Film Festival, and winter photography workshops. The Center also brings nationally acclaimed musicians to the valley and offers classes in everything from aerial dance to paint-your-own pottery.

With shifting exhibitions of local artists and a stellar schedule of live music and performance pieces, there’s always something lively and interesting happening here. Here’s the Crested Butte Center for the Arts line-up for this summer season you don’t wanna miss!

CULINARY ARTS AT THE CENTER

The Center for the Arts brings you a series of culinary classes for the 2017 Summer/Fall Season! Some of the valley’s most creative chefs share their expertise in cooking, baking, and presentation. Sign up for one of our workshops this season, and learn something new in the kitchen.

Home Winemaking (WED. JUNE 28-AUG.23)

Make a barrel of wine! Join local professional chef and home winemaker Tim Egelhoff for a series of wine making and tasting classes. Participants craft a batch of Cabernet Sauvignon from juice to finished bottle. At each class, participants also learn and discuss the basics of wine tasting while sampling small-bite appetizers prepared by Chef Tim. Each participant takes home a few bottles of the finished wine.

The Art of Sourdough Bread Making (JULY 22-23)

Using just four simple ingredients – organic flour, salt, sourdough starter, and water – learn to make yummy, fresh bread from scratch. The key ingredient is a live sourdough starter. This particular starter comes from West Australia and has been passed from bread maker to bread maker for 30 years. On the first day learning the recipe, how to maintain your starter, how to get a feel for the dough, and practice shaping bread loaves. On the second day, continue work on shaping, and then after letting the bread rise, learn how to bake each loaf with steam in the oven. Finish the class by sampling bread fresh from the oven with both butter and a bruschetta recipe you make during class. Bring a large mixing bowl, a wooden spoon, a container with a lid, and warm hands. Participants each bring home a sample of the starter so you can continue making this bread recipe at home. It’s all done with love and kneaded by hand!

Sauce, Sauce, Sauce! (JULY 27)

Sauces enhance our food exponentially. Learn three distinct sauces you can easily use in a variety of dishes in your everyday cooking. Crafted with a mortar and pestle, learn how to balance the sweet, spicy, sour and salt of a Thai sauce. Mix up a traditional Thai larb salad to drizzle the sauce over. Also create a basil yogurt dipping sauce for meats and vegetables as well as tackle a verjus dipping sauce, used mainly for fish and seafood. With a background in winemaking and grape growing, Elizabeth pairs wines with each of the small plates to sample during class, highlighting the three sauces as well as the select wines that expertly tie the flavors together.
